SEMMEA Composition Competition 2011
Welcome to our 5th year of
competition
We are
very please to begin a new year of competition with more of your great
music and a new clinician.
This year, same as last, students
should tell their music teacher or director of their intentions to enter a
piece in the competition.
Directors will register these students with the other
instrumentalist from that school.
These students should be registered as a composition audition by
selecting composition in the field marked for instrument family. Although there may be a field for
instrument, this space can be left blank or any instrument can be
specified, though this is not important as long as composition is marked in
the first section.
These students will be registered
for an audition time just as other instrumentalists at the Senior District
Audition, where their piece will be adjudicated.
The top
1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will
receive recognition and awards on Saturday January 8th 2011 at
2:00pm just before the concert begins during the Senior District Festival.
All students who submit pieces to the competition
are invited to attend the composition clinic. Our clinician this year will be Jeffrey Holmes, Professor
of Music and Director of Jazz & African-American Music Studies at the
University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Check back in for the date and
time of this composition clinic.
